DOROTHY GILLESPIE (1920-2012) “Royal Wedding Festival V” 1996 Wall relief: enamel paint on aluminum: 36 x 13 x 7 inches Signed: Dorothy Gillespie (lower right curl)
Gillespie has liberated sculpture from traditional forms with her concept of combining the structural integrity of aluminum with colorful enamel surfaces into capricious imagery of ribbons of aluminum spiraling in graceful undulations and configurations with curling tendrils that twist and furl like unfolding plant life. Condition: There may be a few tiny areas of paint loss and scratches to the enamel surface.
DOROTHY GILLESPIE
New York/Florida sculptor Dorothy Gillespie’s (1920-2012) monumental sculptures adorned public spaces from Florida to New York City. Gillespie was known for her site-specific works, “Colorfall,” a 40-foot tall construction hangs in the lobby of Wilmington's Thalian Hall, Center for the Performing Arts. Gillespie's massive constructions were installed at Lincoln Center in New York, at Epcot Center in Orlando, FL and in museums worldwide.
